Seiko Presage SSA411J1 review

Seiko Presage SSA411J1 looks beautiful for what the company charges it for. It features a dual curved sapphire crystal and a stunning stainless steel bracelet.

SSA411J1 is a relatively compact watch with 38mm diameter, which makes it ideal for those who like smaller watches. There is a bunch of them who do not like wearing anything more than 39mm.

Seiko Presage SSA411J1 has open heart design that gives its user a glimpse of the movement inside. And if you want to see more, flip it over to get surprised since it has a crystal see-through back.

There is no date window though but if that is really important to you, you can opt for other Presage models. They all lack the open heart design that makes SSA411J1 so special.

Let’s talk about that stunning bracelet. It is unlike anything they offer in their entire Presage lineup. It is beautiful.

However, there are certain things that could have been better. First is water resistance. There is no rating on SSA411J1, in fact, Seiko has mentioned it as being splash resistant. That said, I did took few baths while wearing it in shower and there has been no issue. But, given the fact there is no water resistant rating on it, I would not be going swimming with it.

Second thing is low power reserve. It has power reserve of ~41 hours, which makes me scratching my head. It costs 3 times a typical Seiko Series 5 watch yet it compromises so much on power reserve department, it is crazy. This means if I take the watch off for weekend on Friday night, I would be ending up with a dead watch on Monday. Not a pleasant experience. It should have been at least 48-hours – that 7-8 hour deficiency hurts end user experience.

Verdict – A good watch let down by meager 41h power reserve. Also, Seiko should have worked on it to give it a 50 meter water resistant rating. This makes it a no-no for swimming, let alone deep diving.
